“Aging gracefully” was the title the wine writer of the International Wine Review, Mike Potashnik, gave to his article about our Antiguas Reservas Cabernet Sauvignon.
Together with other wine critics, Potashnik was invited on April 29th to a vertical tasting in the Residence of the Chilean Ambassador to the United States in Washington.
The group was offered to taste the 1960, 1965, 1977, 1978, 1981, 1983, 1990 and 2003 vintages and agreed to share their impressions “with openness and frankness, so we could learn what each honestly thought of the wines. I think it fair to say that we were impressed with just how well these Antiguas Reservas wines were aging. Most of the wines were in reasonably good shape and as often occurs in vertical tastings, some of the older vintages were doing better than the younger ones”, wrote the critic.
The 1981 and 1960 vintages were considered by almost all as the best ones. Below, some brief notes of Mike Potashnik on these two wines:
“Antiguas Reservas Cabernet Sauvignon 1981:
One of the stars of the evening. Medium garnet colored with aromas and flavors of dried cherry and plum fruit, herbs and spice box notes. Beautifully balanced with a long lasting finish. Probably the best wine of the evening.
Antiguas Reservas Cabernet Sauvignon 1960:
A gorgeous wine for its age. Garnet with youthful ripe black cherry fruit aromas and delicious fruit flavors. Seemed young by comparison with the 1965 vintage. Nicely delineated with good acidity and a long lasting finish.”
